Einstein taught us that looking far into space is looking back in time.
Thanks to this trick we have captured the light and taken photos, not only of the contemporary Universe, but also of the young Universe, the adolescent Universe and the child Universe. In doing so we learned a lot about the cosmos that surrounds us, its origin and evolution and the physical laws that govern it. We have a beautiful model. However, there is a big difference between modeling and understanding. For this reason there is a great coordinated effort of the scientific community to "photograph" the Cosmos by producing an exponentially growing quantity of data, which will provide us with new challenges and opportunities.
