The new edition of YoMo Barcelona Festival, a proposal aimed at students framed within the Mobile World Congress joining science and technology, is taking place from February 27 to March 2. This festival aims to bring the school’s learning to real life, throughout the exhibition of the available and exciting employment opportunities in the mobile ecosystem and STEAM sector. The University of Barcelona is taking part in the festival for the second time, in different stands, one of them organized by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the Communication Unit.

Other participants are the members of the educational gaming team from the group Treball Metodologies i TIC (ICT and methodologies, MITIC), from the Institute of Education Sciences of the UB, in the stand nº 412, presenting a game for high school students. Participants will work cooperatively, playing to discover inventions, technologies and inventors related to the STEAM subjects. The game has been developed with the collaboration of Ateneu de Fabricació Digital Ciutat Meridiana, who provided the designing tools and laser beam.

The UCC+i program for the dissemination workshops includes the following activities (stand nº 458 (141), carrer de Barcelona, 44 – 08901 l’Hospitalet de Llobregat):

Thursday February 27
De la realitat virtual al món real (From virtual reality to the real world)
Faculty of Psychology
Activity on virtual reality, which intends to create the same physical, psychological, emotional and behaviour reactions that come up with real stimuli.

RiuNeT app: citizen science and awareness on the state of our rivers
FEM research group. Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Biology
With the observations on the environment of a river and its living organisms, we can determine its hydrological state and ecological quality.

Wednesday, February 28
Endinsa’t en el món de les inundacions (Into the world of floods)

GAMA research group. Faculty of Physics.
In this workshop, participants will discover the effects of floods throughout a visual itinerary with recent and historical episodes of floods.

Scientific and forensic photography techniques
Faculty of Library and Information Science
Participants will discover how scientific and forensic photography techniques in documents reproduce precisely the features of an object to fix its visual appearance in a specific moment and under certain conditions, to prove qualities that are hidden with visible light, or fixing its significant elements that have to be specially marked.

Thursday, March 1
Ultracold UB (Computational Physics Lab)

Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics. Faculty of Physics – Institute of Cosmos Sciences
Attendants can make simulations of different experiments in which the quantum features of matter are expressed.

De la realitat virtual al món real (From virtual reality to the real world)
Faculty of Psychology
Activity on virtual reality, which intends to create the same physical, psychological, emotional and behaviour reactions that come up with real stimuli.

Moreover, on March 2, the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), is organizing –in the stand 548 (141)- three workshops with the activity “Analyze the DNA and discover the perpetrator of a crime", framed within the activity program “Investigate!". The workshop is coordinated by researchers who seek a lot of participation from the attendants in projects that are conducted in the laboratories with science materials. An experience to wake scientific vocations up as well as the interest in research.

Also, on March 1, the researcher Jordi Díaz, from the Scientific and Technological Centers (CCiTUB), will give the conference “Journey to the nanoworld: the nanotechnology revolution”. And on Friday March 2, the researcher Adrian di Pizzo, from the Department of Private Law, will give the lecture “Are we ready for robots?”.
