ICCUB doctoral student Helena Ubach Raya is offering the course "Gravitational waves: a new window to the universe" where she will introduce us to these mysterious phenomena.
Helena has studied Physics at the University of Barcelona, she specialized in the Master's Degree in Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology and is currently writing her doctoral thesis on the effects of gravitational lensing on gravitational waves. She works in the Gravitational Wave Astrophysics group of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB and is a member of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA collaboration.
COURSE: “GRAVITATIONAL WAVES: A NEW WINDOW TO THE UNIVERSE”
Gravitational waves are the oscillations of space-time, and their recent detection has just opened a new window to observe the universe. In this course we will see what these waves are, what new information they can provide about known stars (such as black holes and neutron stars) and what they will allow us to discover in the future, for example to obtain a better understanding of the first moments of the universe .
