La xerrada, dividida en dues parts d'una hora cadascuna, començarà fent una introducció al CERN, als detectors de partícules en general i, en particular als detectors anomenats híbrids. Aquests detectors serveixen per detectar diferents tipus de partícules (alfa, beta, gamma, raigs-X) i tenen moltes aplicacions com en imatge medica o en dosimetria per detectar la radiació a la que estan exposats els astronautes. També parlarem sobre com dissenyem aquests detectors en la secció de microelectrònica del CERN, explicant un component electrònic anomenat transistor i la fascinant evolució de la indústria microelectrònica.
