Context
Area
Atomic-Nuclear
Quantum technologies will be of great importance in the near future incomputing and cryptography techniques and information handling. This makes it interesting for the general population to acquire a minimum familiarity with its most fascinating aspects. All the material in this workshop has been made in open code by university students of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Barcelona.
The workshop consists of computer simulations of several experiments in which the quantum properties of matter are revealed. For example, the simulation of the movement of a set of ultra-cold atoms trapped in a potential well (analogous with the movement of a pendulum), the simulation of the movement of a soliton of anatomic gas at 0 K, and the simulation of a quantum Newton pendulum.
Bojos per la ciència
The Physics course of the program "Bojos per la ciència" of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera is a course developed jointly by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE) (link is external) and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2 ) (link is external) aimed at high school students with special interest and talent for physics. The basic objective of this course is to promote the scientific vocation of these young people, and especially their enthusiasm for physics. In some sessions, students can find ideas and proposals for their Baccalaureate Research Work, which will be carried out, where appropriate, with the support of the teaching staff of the course.
The course will be held for 16 Saturdays from January 18, 2020 to November 29, 2020 in spaces of different Catalan research centers in physics.
The inscriptions to the course of Crazy for physics will be open from September 16 to October 24, 2019 and among all the registrants will be selected 25 students of 1st of baccalaureate who will participate in this edition of the course in the 8th edition of the program Crazy for science that will take place by 2020.
