“Astronomy: the ultimate frontiers” at the Gaudir UB courses

A number of researchers of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona are part of the teacher’s team of the Gaudir UB course “Astronomy: the last frontiers” that starts on Thursday, April 28.

GAUDIR UB is an academical activities programme formed by trimestral 20-hour courses with a marked dissemination quality but with the rigour and quality guaranteed by an institution such as the University of Barcelona.

The courses are open to the general public: no prior qualifications are required beyond the wish to learn and enjoy the acquisition of knowledge. Thus, Gaudir UB maintains its commitment to transfer the knowledge generated at the University of Barcelona to society.

COURSE: «ASTRONOMY: THE LAST FRONTIERS»

Oftentimes throughout history, mankind has fallen into the temptation of believing to hold a special and privileged spot in nature. Currently, though, the scientific advances have revealed that we are part of such an ancient and vast Universe that makes, from its perspective, our terrestrial affairs vain: humans are the result of a fourteen-billion-year cosmic evolution that has transformed the energy of the primitive Universe into life and eventually conscience.

This course, organized by astronomers of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the UB, aims to provide everyone with an interest in astronomy with a basic but rigorous vision of the Universe and its components while putting special emphasis in the more recent and spectacular developments (discoveries of new planets beyond the Solar System, accelerated expansion of the Universe, gravitational waves, black holes, etc.). During the sessions, we will discover not only what we know about our fascinating physical universe, but also about the cutting-edge research lines in astronomy and the results that are currently being obtained. The objective is that assistants acquire the most accurate and updated knowledge possible about this dynamical science.
