Next week you will find ICCUB pre-doctoral researchers Ana Climent and Dani Marín offering a talk on General Relativity, black holes and gravitational waves at the Encontres amb el 3r Cicle:
WE ZOOM INTO A BLACK HOLE WITH QUANTUM GRAVITY - By Ana Climent (ICCUB)
Although we know that quantum laws govern the Universe, gravity does not seem to want to be quantified like the rest of the forces... Why? This question highlights our profound ignorance of the nature of gravity and constitutes one of the great unknowns of fundamental physics: a quantum theory of gravity.
RELATIVITY AS A TOOL FOR DOING ASTRONOMY - By Dani Marín (ICCUB)
General relativity is no longer just a theoretical affair: we can directly measure disturbances in space-time – gravitational waves. We will learn how to use these remnants of the most violent phenomena in the Universe, such as collisions between black holes, for astronomical purposes, to understand the origin and properties of star clusters.
When? Tuesday, November 15 at 2 p.m
Where? Aula Magna Enric Casassas, Faculty of Physics UB
