First day of the training course ADMIRA
Area
Particle Physics
The first training day of the course Activities with Medipix detectors to investigate Radiation in the classroom, (ADMIRA project) took place on the past Friday, January 10, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Physics. This workshop is directed towards schoolteachers and professors, who might be interested in bringing research closer to their students to promote new scientific and technical vocations. In particular, it aims to create a network of knowledge among the Timepix and medipix detectors, which are developed at the CERN research center.
The course had over 50 attendees, and counted with the presence of CERN researcher and ADMIRA creator Rafel Ballabriga, ICCUB researchers Eugeni Graugés and Pol Bordas, and teacher Daniel Parcerisas, from the Institut Sagrada Família. Ballabriga opened the course explaining how they came up with the idea of ADMIRA, and the main goals of the project. Researchers Graugés and Bordas gave lectures about several concepts of physics, such as radiation, radioactivity or cosmic rays, and Daniel Parcerisas talked about pedagogical activities of radiation detection.
This course is coordinated with the Institute for Professional Development of the University of Barcelona (IDP – ICE), who offers accreditation among completion of the course.
