Next Tuesday, February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated. In this context, several research institutes and faculties of the University of Barcelona have organized a conference on Women in Scientific Research.

The event will consist of two parts. At 3pm there will have the conference "Quantifying the biases of scientific success", which will be given by Dr. Roberta Sinatra of the University of Copenhagen. At 16.00, there will be a coffee and debate, where Dr. Sinatra will be joined by Dr. Joaquina Álvarez of the CSIC-Institute Jaume Almera, and Dr. Núria Salan, of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

The ICCUB researcher Alba Cervera participates in the Radio programme Versió RAC1 talking about women in science with another two women scientists.

Alba gives example and inspiration to girls in order to change the situation of some research areas as physics which still involves few women.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The International Day of Woman and Girls in Science was decided by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The day recognizes the critical role women and girls play in science and technology. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is implemented by UNESCO and UN Women, in collaboration with intergovernmental agencies and institutions, as well as civil society partners, that aim to promote women and girls in science.The day's purpose is to promote full and equal access to participation in science for women and girls.
