This year, the UB Divulga has decided to hold the VI Science Festival virtually. This coming Friday, May 8, you will be able to follow them through the social media. We will keep you informed!

The VI Science Fest of the University of Barcelona will take place at the Historical Building in Plaça Universitat, in two different days; one for the schools and educational centers, and another open to families and the general public.

The Science Fest's goal is to boost citizen's knowledge and interest in science. There will be several participative wokshops, from different departments, faculties and research institutes.

If you are a school, you must register here

ICCUB researchers will be rpesenting three different workshops:

ADMIRA Project: Activities with Medipix Detectors to Research Radiation in the Classroom

The ADMIRA Project (Activities with Medipix Detectors to Investigate Radiation in the classroom) aims to create a network of schools around the use of Timepix Detectors designed at CERN. The objective is to bring the Institutes closer to the research done in Universities and Research Centers. A group of schools that have participated in a selection process will use these devices in their classrooms. Teacher training activities will be open to any institute teacher who is interested (with the aim of expanding the network in future editions).

On this website you can consult the objectives of the ADMIRA project, the ways of participating and the activities offered for teachers and students. You can also find the didactic orientations, skills and key contents that are intended to work.

Simulations of Quantum Mechanics

Simulations of Quantum Mechanics starts as a collaborative project involving undergraduate students, professors and researchers. It is based on the development of computer programs, created by students under the supervision of professors, which allow introducing basic concepts of quantum mechanics and the physics of ultracold gases to the students of baccalaureate and degree. The programs carried out aim to be rigorous from the scientific point of view, solving the relevant equations in a precise manner, combined with a graphical interface that allows users to interact with them in a pleasant way.

OBJECTIVES:
Encourage cooperation among seniors of degree
Bring seniors in the research that takes place in our department
Produce a useful tool for the dissemination of science at the high school level

This is an open project. If you are interested in collaborating, please contact Bruno Julia Diaz, brunojulia@ub.edu

Quarks: the building blocks of matter

Quarks: the building blocks of matter is an activity based on a puzze devised at CERN. Its aim is to introduce to the students the laws that allow quarks to combine in order to form protons and neutrons, which constitute atomic nuclei, as well as other more exotic hadrons that are part of our Standard Model of particles.

This activity can be adapted to the ages of the students by varying the complexity of the learning goals, which include the identification of the fundamental particles that appear on the Standard Model, their properties and the laws that dictate their interaction and how these particles combine into more complex ones.

Recommended ages: from 10 to 18 years old.
